Beyonce's Father Receives Requested Decrease in Child Support

Parents facing concerns that a child support agreement does not address current needs may be able to seek options through the family law process.
Pop star Beyonce's father was recently granted a reduction in child support for Beyonce's much-younger half brother. Beyonce's mother filed for divorce a month after Matthew Knowles was named in the paternity suit. Knowles received a substantial cut in child support because his income significantly dropped after Beyonce fired him as her manager in 2011.
Because of the substantial change in income, Knowles is no longer required to pay $12,000 a month which was the previous amount of child support. Knowles must now pay $2,500 a month, instead of $12,000 a month, to the actress he shares the child with. Knowles had sought the reduction in child support which was recently granted.
For those struggling to make child support payments, relief may be available through the family law system. A child support modification can be granted in circumstances when the paying parent has experienced a significant change in income such as from the loss of a job. Likewise, a custodial parent can request a change to the child support agreement if the paying parent begins earning a significantly higher income. Other factors, including a significant change in the needs of the child or an increased cost of living, may also be considered when a court considers a child support modification request.
By petitioning the court, parents may be able to seek child support modifications that a parent needs. A trained family law attorney can help guide a parent through the process and serve as an ally through the process.
