Former NFL Player Divorcing 'Housewives' Wife

Though divorce can be a challenging process, different options exist to accommodate different circumstances.
Former NFL football player, Kordell Stewart, recently filed for divorce in a neighboring state. Stewart filed for divorce from his reality-TV star "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" wife. Stewart claimed that his marriage to Porsha Williams is "irretrievably broken" in his recent filing. The couple were married less than two years ago and do not have any children together. Stewart has asked the court to determine that there are no marital assets to divide and that neither side be required to pay alimony. Williams apparently learned that her husband had filed for divorce from the media and did not receive the news directly from him.
If both parties to a divorce agree to the divorce, and the major issues involved in the divorce, an uncontested divorce may be possible. This is a more streamlined process that can save the parties time and money. Major divorce legal issues such property division, spousal support or alimony and child custody and support decisions will have to be agreed to and not in dispute for the parties to pursue an uncontested divorce. Uncontested divorces also have the advantage of being resolved more quickly which may present fewer opportunities for disputes.
If the parties cannot agree in a complicated divorce proceeding, or sometimes in a high-asset divorce, then the court will make property division, spousal support or alimony and any child custody and support decisions for the couple. If the parties are unable to agree by reaching a divorce settlement, parties may also engage in mediation and alternative dispute resolution to reach agreement on important divorce legal issues. If the parties are entirely unable to reach a settlement agreement, though this is uncommon, then the court will make those determinations for them.
Although the end of a marriage is difficult for any two parties facing it, understanding the realities of the process may help. This may be a benefit in a process with many unavoidable emotions.
