Bieber Faces new Paternity Claim from Alleged Night in Florida

Paternity claims can be readily verified through the court process which is usually best for all parties concerned.

Another woman is claiming that Justin Bieber fathered her child following a one-night stand in Florida. This is the second paternity claim against the young music star in the same number of years. The current claim arises from an alleged incident that happened several years ago during which time Bieber was under the age of consent in Florida. If the European woman's claims are true, she could be charged with statutory rape in Florida. The previous allegations against Bieber by the first woman claiming to have his child were dropped when Bieber offered to submit to DNA testing to prove he was not the child's father.

Paternity may be presumed, agreed to or disputed. The mother of a child may file a paternity action to establish that the man she alleges is the father of her child is, in fact, the father of the child. Additionally, if the mother of the child is receiving public assistance from the state, the state can initiate a paternity action to compel the alleged father to take a paternity test for child support purposes. In either case, the alleged father will have to appear before the court and can be required to take a DNA paternity test if the man disputes that he is the father of the child.

In addition to child support, which will be required if the DNA test confirms that the alleged father is indeed the father of the child, the child will have other rights once paternity has been established. Confirmation and the legal recording of paternity will allow the child to inherit from the child's father; become eligible for dependent health insurance coverage under a group policy the father belongs to; be eligible for social security benefits in the event the father becomes disabled or dies; become entitled to wrongful death benefits if the father is killed in a circumstance that leads to such a claim; and obtain medical history.

Determining the biological father of a child can have important practical and economic implications but it can also have an important emotional impact as well. A paternity action can either establish paternity or establish paternity fraud, if that is the case, and in either circumstance, can be helpful to obtain confirmation of paternity claims.
